SB 759 was stopped thanks to calls from Missouri renewable energy supporters!
Senate Bill 759 Sponsored by Senator Lager was an attempt on the part of MEDA (Missouri Energy Development Association) and Ameren to:
- Weaken Missouri's current Renewable Energy Standard (RES), creating one with no benefits whatsoever to Missouri citizens.
- Allow purchasing out-of-state Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) which means NO projects, NO jobs, NO economic development in Missouri, and NO improvement to Missouri's air & water quality. This results in a complete waste of Missouri ratepayer dollars on energy from other states, while giving the appearance of supporting renewable energy and respecting the will of Missouri voters. This is backward of all other 26 states that are enjoying robust renewable energy programs. In short, SB 759 is worse than no law at all.
- Expand the renewable energy definitions to include old energy sources, biomass, and municipal solid waste. This effectively reduces funding for real renewable energy.
- The Missouri Legislature should not be enacting an RES unless it causes renewable energy investment in Missouri to happen, and happen NOW. Utilities want to raise rates but send that extra money to other states that have nothing to do with producing actual energy for Missouri ratepayers.

Thank you for taking action for Missouri's energy future.
