At Renew Missouri, we believe clean energy is a critical and foundational piece in building a strong economy and a sustainable future for our state. To us, sustainability reaches beyond the environmental benefits of clean energy and encompasses economic development, job creation, environmental justice, and more.

Missouri is well-positioned to realize these benefits, but this progress is threatened by those who oppose clean energy and widely distribute misinformation to our citizens and lawmakers alike. Because of this, we need your help to fully deliver the positive impact of clean energy to our State. Your generous contribution will empower us to fight for a strong clean energy policy that directly benefits all Missourians, both today and for generations to come.

PLANNED GIVING - The Easiest Way to Impact Renew Missouri

While working at Renew Missouri, the organization’s focus is always on the future. The questions of whether we are doing enough to ensure a prosperous and safe future and whether we can address the existential challenges at hand are ever-present. The weight of these concerns is substantial, particularly when the well-being of our planet and our state’s economy is at stake. The work carried out here will shape future generations well beyond the present.

The progress of Renew Missouri is driven by our most dedicated supporters. Your support is the cornerstone of our ability to assemble a team of policy experts dedicated to addressing the unique challenges in our state. This legacy does not belong solely to those within Renew Missouri; it’s a shared legacy with you.

In light of this, Renew Missouri is proud to introduce its Gift of Renewal Planning Program. Our development and legal team is ready to assist you in leaving a gift to Renew Missouri that will have a lasting impact on the next generation. Whether it takes the form of a Trust, a Last Will and Testament, or a non-probate transfer like a POD on a bank account or a life insurance policy, we’re here to help you maximize your commitment to Missouri’s future.

Below includes examples of immediate actions you can take to ensure the continuity of your gift. Moreover, we are more than willing to collaborate directly with your team of estate planning professionals to ensure that any bequest is handled promptly and with the utmost care. While many of us at Renew Missouri have a legal background, we recognize the importance of involving your trusted advisors in this process to ensure your wishes are faithfully followed.

For more information, please feel free to call us at (417) 496-1924, and we can discuss your intentions and the most effective way to structure your gift. Although several of us at Renew Missouri are lawyers, we cannot serve as your legal counsel in this process, as it would present a conflict of interest. Instead, let us work in tandem with your trusted advisors to guarantee that your wishes are carried out.

You can also reach out to our Executive Director, James Owen, via email to request further information on how this process works. We have a selection of provisions that can be incorporated into a Trust or Last Will and Testament if it would be helpful in the drafting or amending of these documents.

Our work at Renew Missouri is deliberate and steady, and to sustain our efforts, we hope you’ll consider extending your generosity by participating in this new way of giving. In advance, we want to express our gratitude for your consideration. Your support means a great deal, and we appreciate it more than you know.

A GIFT OF RENEWAL: Ways to Give Up to $100,000

A POD bank account or certificate of deposit names one or more persons or charities as the beneficiary of all funds once you, the account owner, pass away. The beneficiary you name has no rights to the funds until after your lifetime. Until that time, you remain in control and are free to use the money in the bank account, change the beneficiary or close the account.

A simple and versatile way to help us continue advocating for access to clean energy for all Missourians is through a gift in your will or living trust, known as a charitable bequest. By including a bequest to Renew Missouri in your will or living trust, you ensure that we can continue to advance clean energy advocacy in Missouri. Below is suggested language to use when drafting your bequest.

“I give, devise and bequeath to Renew Missouri, a Missouri nonprofit corporation and a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, located in Columbia, Missouri, Federal Tax ID Number 81-3229949, the sum of __________ (or % of my estate), (or other personal property herein described) to be used for its general programs in advocacy, education, and outreach as it shall determine.”

Establishing a charitable gift annuity with Renew Missouri allows you to provide a gift to the area of your choosing while also receiving fixed payments for life. You can also qualify for a variety of tax benefits depending on how you fund your gift.

If you fund your gift annuity with cash or appreciated property, you qualify for a federal income tax deduction if you itemize. In addition, you can minimize capital gains taxes when you fund your gift with appreciated property.
Now you can fund your gift using your IRA assets. If you are 70Â― and older, you can make a one-time election of up to $50,000 to fund a gift annuity. While your gift does not qualify for an income tax deduction, it does escape income tax liability on the transfer and count toward all or part of your required minimum distributions.

This type of trust provides you, or other named individuals, income each year for life or a period not exceeding 20 years from assets you give to the trust you create. At the end of the trust term, the balance in the trust goes to Renew Missouri. These types of gifts may offer you tax benefits and the option for income. There are two ways to receive payments and each has its own benefits:

– The annuity trust pays you each year the same dollar amount you choose at the start. Your payments stay the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.

– The unitrust pays you, each year, a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. The amount of your payments is redetermined annually. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. If the value decreases, however, so will your payments.

Securities and mutual funds that have increased in value and been held for more than one year are popular assets to use when making a gift.. A gift of securities or mutual funds offers you the chance to support our work while realizing important benefits for yourself.

When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds in support of our mission, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer. Securities are most often used to support our work in the form of:

a) An outright gift: When you donate securities to Renew Missouri, you receive the same income tax savings that you would if you wrote a check, but with the added benefit of eliminating capital gains taxes on the transfer, which can be as high as 20%.

b) A transfer on death (TOD) account: By placing a TOD designation on your brokerage or investment account, that account will be paid to one or more persons or charities after your lifetime.
