About Renew Missouri

Our History

Renew Missouri was formed in the fall of 2006 at a Missouri Votes Conservation environmental summit. Two energy priorities were defined as being essential to the movement of energy in Missouri to renewables. The first was to create true net metering and simple interconnection in Missouri. The second was to create a Renewable Electricity Standard for Missouri.

In collaboration with Missouri Votes Conservation (MVC), Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE), Heartland Renewable Energy Society (HRES), THe Sierra Club, and some key legislators, we were able to draft, introduce, negotiate and pass The Easy Connection Act. At the same time we made an honest attempt to pass a Renewable Energy Standard in the Missouri Legislature, but it was deemed impossible.

The second goal of enacting a Renewable Energy Standard in Missouri is being pursued via a ballot initiative strategy which is the current goal of Renew Missouri.

Our Plan

The current project involves collecting over 150,000 signatures of Missouri residents enabling us to put the Renewable Electricity Standard to a vote of the people on the November 2008 presidential ballot. Recent polling in Missouri shows strong support for the issue. Since the Missouri legislature is reluctant to pass this measure, luckily Missouri is one of 24 states that allows taking the issue directly to the voters.

Getting 150,000 signatures collected by the May 4th, 2008 deadline. Each signature that is collected by our volunteers reduces the cost of getting the issue on the ballot, and every dollar donated gets us closer to our fundraising goals. Please volunteer or donate today!
